It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elaine K. Bush of Virginia Beach on October 14, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving and devoted family to the end.
Elaine was born in 1941 in Holland, Manitoba, Canada, the eldest daughter of Thomas and Josephine Chewings. She is survived by her husband of forty-four years, Richard G. Bush, MD, of Virginia Beach and daughters Carolyn B. Andrade and husband, Alexander, of Dallas, Texas and Sarah K. Brady and husband, Daniel, of Bethesda, Maryland. She also is survived by two sisters, Gail Aubry and her husband, Maurice, of Cypress River, Manitoba, and Cheryl Drachuk and her husband, Gary, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, six grandchildren: Eloise, Atticus, and Beatrice Andrade and Aiden, Sean, and Fiona Brady, plus many nieces and nephews.
Elaine grew up on a farm in Manitoba, Canada and graduated from Misericordia General Hospital nursing program in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1963. She moved to Montreal, Quebec during “Expo ’67” and worked at the Royal Victoria Hospital where she met her husband. After moving to Chesapeake, Virginia in 1981 she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from O.D.U. in 1986. She then began a 25-year career as an operating room nurse at Maryview Medical Center.
Elaine and her husband traveled to many different countries often visiting their former foreign exchange students. They also joined several Road Scholar and Sierra Club tours to various parts of the world. She was an active member for over thirty years at Green Acres Presbyterian Church, Portsmouth, Virginia, having served as a Session member. Most of all, however, she loved her family as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her six grandchildren were a great source of joy for her. We will cherish her presence and memory forever.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Craig Franzman and the Comfort Care Hospice nurses for their kind and compassionate care. A memorial service and Celebration of Life reception will take place at 10:30am Saturday, November 3rd, at First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach, 300 36th Street, Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the O.D.U Nursing Program, Maryview Medical Center or the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements in care of Cremation Society of Virginia.
