Charles C. Coker passed away on Monday, April 15 at Sentara Hospice House following a prolonged and valiant battle with cancer.
Mr. Coker was born in Oxford, Mississippi on April 7, 1943 to Leonard and Doris Coker. He served his country for 23 years in the U.S. Navy, including service aboard an aircraft carrier during the Vietnam War, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He continued to pursue advanced education following his Navy service, earning a Masters Degree. He worked as an instructor and student coordinator at ATI until his second retirement several years ago.
Mr. Coker was an active member of Thalia United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, was a trustee, served as a media coordinator, and participated in Methodist Men.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his sister, Janice Hamilton (Larry) of Amarillo, Texas; two sons, Stephen (Jan) of Chesapeake Beach Maryland and Leonard of Wilson, North Carolina; his daughter Nichole Airhart (Danny Jr.) of Youngsville, Louisiana; and step-son Eric Walters. He is further survived by his grandchildren Cheryl, Ian, Ethan and Rio Danielle.
Mr. Coker loved his family, his church, singing, computers, and golf.
There will be a memorial service for Mr. Coker on Saturday, June 1 at 3 PM at Thalia Methodist Church with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Thalia Methodist Church Methodist Men Scholarship Fund.
Mr. Coker was loved and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

I’m sorry very sorry for your loss….Mr. Coker was always trying to smile, like his picture, even when he wasn’t feeling very well….He will be missed…Enjoyed knowing him all these years….Take care………….
