Harold Winters
January 25, 1926 - January 19, 2018

Harold Richard Winters died January 19, 2018, just six days before his 92nd birthday. Born on January 25, 1926 in Butler, PA, Harold was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 60 years, Dorothy “Dotty”, whom he met at Grove City College. He is survived by his devoted children, Dr. Mark Winters (Judy) of Virginia Beach and Judy Spain (Norman) of Kentucky. He is survived by his amazing grandchildren, Madison Winters, Nathaniel Spain, and Benjamin Spain (Allison) with the pixie great-granddaughter, Elin.
Harold served in World War II as a Sergeant, 1251st Eng. Combat Battalion and played on the Army baseball and basketball teams. Upon his return, he embarked on a 30 year career at U.S. Steel Corporation. He served his community as an active 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner and Longhouse Officer of the Pittsburgh YMCA’s Indian Guides.
A Pittsburgh native, Harold and Dotty retired to Trinity, FL, and enjoyed a long retirement of golf (and wearing yellow golf shirts), exotic travel, joking with friends, and rating their jokes. In 2015, he moved to Virginia Beach and was lovingly cared for by Mark and Judy and the staff at First Colonial Inn.
A Celebration of Life Party for FCI residents will be held on Saturday, January 27 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at First Colonial Inn. A Celebration of Life Visitation for friends will be held from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27 at First Colonial Inn, located at 845 First Colonial Road.
The family suggests consideration of contributions to The Harold ‘50 and Dorothy (Brown ’50) Winters Scholarship Endowment at Grove City College; contact Elizabeth Hanley at (724) 264-1327 or at EMHanley@gcc.edu .
