VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – June Nickerson Linton “Oma”, 90 years young, of Virginia Beach, VA passed away peacefully and comfortably in her own home on Jan 8, 2019. Both of her daughters were by her side, lovingly holding her hands and telling her how much she was loved by her family and friends. Having lived an incredible life with only the last four months unable to be totally independent she was ready to be with Jesus and all of the loved ones who have gone before her.
June was predeceased by her husband, Thomas B. “John” Linton Jr, her parents, sister and brother, and recently by her son, John Scott Linton.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Leigh Linton Smit and husband Raymond of Virginia Beach, VA and Lynn Linton Diggs and husband Billy of Kitty Hawk NC; five granddaughters Nicole Diggs Farrell (born on Oma’s birthday 34 years ago and never missed a single birthday celebration together) and husband Brandon, Brittany Diggs Duffy and husband Adam, Kimberly Diggs, Brianna Diggs and Kristine Linton all of Kitty Hawk NC; six great grand children Maika and Teagan Farrell, Kaeden, Kohl, Koral and Kale Duffy; her nieces and nephew Sandra Rochevot, Judy Owen, Jeff Gedmin and their families; cousin Keith Nix; her beloved sponsored child for over 35 years Pilar Francisco and her family of the Philippines; her step-son Leslie Crockett of Virginia Beach VA; extended family and so many people young and old who also considered her their “Oma”.
June has been described as an inspiration to all who knew her, a beautiful spirit, gracious, honorable, strong in her faith, willing to share her knowledge of life and open her heart to those around her, someone who loved her family fiercely, poised and ladylike with the funniest stories and one-liners, willing to tell it like it is, feisty, always ready with a hug, sweet natured with a beautiful smile, and laughter that brightens and uplifts all who are around her.
With her southern charm she will also be remembered for her love of cooking and teaching us her most famous recipes. Always a giver – she would send you home with the recipe to enjoy and share with others.
June has left a great legacy of love and family bonds for those of us who will one day be celebrating and rejoicing with her up above.
June’s family would like to thank her caregiver Marie and all of the Sentara Hospice staff involved who took such good care of her and her family.
To honor Junes wishes a Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm, Saturday, Jan 19, 2019 at the home of Lynn and Billy Diggs in Kitty Hawk NC. All are welcome. There will be an outdoor heated tent. Email Lynn Diggs at lynndiggs@earthlink.net for directions and further details.
