Newport News- Patricia (Patty) Ann Ritchason McLeod , 75, passed away peacefully on February 2 following complications from COVID 19. Patty grew up in Columbus, Ohio and lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before moving to Newport News 29 yr ago.
Patty was a generous, caring and loving wife and mother. She was very active throughout her adult life with various charitable organizations including the North Canton, Ohio Junior League and the Perry Highland (Pittsburgh) Junior Woman’s Club where she served as president. In 1981 she received the Outstanding Young Woman Award from the North Hills Jaycees for her contributions to the community. Upon moving to Newport News she became a member of the Woman’s Club of Newport News and was a member for 20 years and served on the Board of Directors.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Wauleka Ritchason of Columbus, Ohio and Newport News. She is survived by her husband of 53 yrs, James R. McLeod, her son J. Robert (Stephanie) McLeod, daughter Cheryl (Geoff) Balleisen and her triplet Grandchildren, Zachary, Sierra and Eric Balleisen, who always brought a smile to her face and a twinkle to her eye.
Due to COVID restrictions the family is planning a Celebration of Life Service at a date to be determined some time this summer. In leu of flowers the family suggests a memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of your choice.

Patty’s smile in the photograph is a perfect representation of her life. Her loving presence will be missed by her family and friends, but her memory will last forever. Condolences to Jim, Rob, Cheryl and their families.
Patty will be missed by all that knew her, she loved life, always upbeat and always smiling, my deepest sympathy to Jim and the entire family.
Jim, I was thinking of you and Patty today and was so sad to find this notice. I’m so sorry for you and family. I wondered if she was ill prior to Covid?
