Thomas J. Cox of Chesapeake, VA passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 peacefully in his home at age 74 with his wife and son by his side. He fought a long, hard battle with Parkinson’s disease and congestive heart failure, but never complained.
Tom was a Vietnam combat veteran who had proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired as a Major after over 20 years of service. Following retirement, he worked in several successful positions, including management, sales, handyman, and estate planning.
He loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting, shooting, and primitive camping. He especially enjoyed black powder muzzle loading. His woodworking and handyman skills have been passed down to his son. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog, Matt.
He is deeply missed by his wife of 50 years, Colette Cox; his son, Mike (Rana) Cox and daughter, Jill (Mike) McBride. He also leaves 6 grandchildren to cherish his memory; Corbin, Sayge and Kaya Cox; Emily, Ryan and Avery McBride. We choose to remember him most for his perseverance and sense of humor.
Tom will finally rest with his baby grandson, Silas Paul Cox, in Evergreen, CO who preceded him in death.
Thank you to all the friends, neighbors and caregivers, including Hospice, who helped us get through the last couple of years, with a special thanks to Brenda.
